Reality was setting in. Ten years had gone by for Will. He was again in his quarters. Only this time he was at Far Point Station awaiting the Enterprise D.
He served on many ships. He could not begin to list them all. He met many women, but none like Deanna Troi. He found himself thinking of her again as he had many times since. Yet, as hard as he tried, he could not stop thinking about her.
"Oh hell, Riker, you have to stop thinking of her. You'll never see her again." he thought to himself. "Why do I continue to think of her when I know it's diffently over? That chapter of my life is said and done. I have to stop what iffing the past." he scolded himself. "It'll never be again. It's over. I must go on with my life and let by gone be by gones."
This time, though, he somehow felt it was going to be different aboard this new ship.Something in his very being told him, he was in for a real adventure aboard this ship. It was not just the idea of serving with the renowned Captain Picard, but a feeling. A feeling something was about to change in his life. He could not put his finger on it, but it was there.
Just then his combadge beeped. The Chancellor of Far Point wanted to see him. Reality was back again and he was concentrating on the here and now and his career once again.
Chapter 5
Deanna was now serving at Star Fleet. A counselor on a ship. But just a counselor. No special title or anything. She served under the ship's counselor on this ship.
She had had this position for two years now. She had only been on this ship for a few months now. Even so, off and on she thought of Will Riker frequently. Many guys had come and gone in her life over the past ten years, but none had made her feel the way Will had made her feel all those many years ago.
Will was the first to touch her soul. Not just the first man she ever had, but he was and forever will be her Imzadi. The word even sounded like it was deep with meaning. She whispered the word silently to herself."Imzadi". It was so profound. She grew up with the word and knew and understood the deep meaning behind it."But what good is it if the one you wish to hear it is not around to hear it." she thought to herself.
So far being in Star Fleet had not brought her any closer to him. Oh, she loved her career, but she wanted more. She wanted to see Will Riker again. Now she wondered if it would ever happen.
She looked over the open positions on a ship named Enterprise D. She did this many times during her career, generally taking what ever was offered to her. But this time, this time it was different. There was a feeling of something special about this ship named Enterprise and not just the fact the captain was the famous Jean-Luc Picard, either. Then for some reason she started looking at the filled positions and the crewmembers.
As she did her excitement grew. Then she saw it. There it was right in front of her. Commander William T. Riker- first officer. She was ecstatic.
She rushed to look at the openings again, aboard the Enterprise D. There was an opening for Ship's Counselor aboard the ship. Anxiety, intrepidation, and joy filled her.
"Oh, could it be" she thought to herself, "after all these years!"
She decided she wanted to put in a request for transfer. She knew she had to find a better excuse, though, than Commander William T. Riker. She pondered the ideas in her mind until she felt she came up with a good reason. Then she submitted her request.

"Well, Lieutenant Troi" her current Captain Started, "You've worked long and hard as a Counselor. You're good at what you do. You deserve to have the title Ship's Counselor, instead of working under one."
"Thank you, sir"
"Picard's a fine captain and the Enterprise D will be a fine ship because of it." her captain said.
"Yes, sir"
"I am going to grant your request for transfer and give you high recommendations" he said.
"Thank you, sir" she was so excited she could hardly control her emotions.
"Good luck Counselor" he said, "You'll make a fine Ship's Counselor."
"Thank you" she smiled.
"Dismissed. Oh, and you might want to start packing now. We'll rendezvous with the Enterprise in a day or so."
"Aye, Captain" and with that she hurried back to her quarters with much excitement. She could hardly contain herself. She immediately called her mother to tell her she made Ship's Counselor."
"Lwaxana Troi here. Daughter of.. Oh, Deanna it's you. It's about time you called your mother."
"Hello, Mother. I have good news." Deanna said not giving her talkative mother a chance to talk.
"And what might that be? You're coming home? Mr. Homn time for cele.."
"Mother, no, that's not it." she felt her mother could put a damper on anything.
"Well, if that's how you feel, why did you bother calling?" Lwaxana retorted.
"Please, Mother"
"Oh, alright. Tell me your news." Lwaxana gave in.
"I've gotten a promotion and will be on another ship."
"Oh and I thought you were going to tell me you're coming hom to become a Betazoid Delegate. Now that would be excellent news."
Deanna rolled her eyes."I'm going to be Ship's Counselor aboard the Enterprise D."
"Ship's Counselor." Lwaxana rolled the word around in her head. "Well, that sounds like a little more prestige."
"It is Mother." Deanna said flatly.
"And the Enterprise? Mr. Homn, aren't I sailing aboard that ship sometime in the near future?" asked Lwaxana. "I do hope they have handsome men there. I do need to find myself a mate. I'm not getting any younger you know. And neither are you, Deanna."
"MOTHER!"
"Oh, yes. Sorry Little One. I am very happy for you."
"I have to pack now, Mother. I start tomorrow."
"I'll be paying you a visit soon, Little One."
"Good bye Mother" and with that she ended the call and started packing.
