Winter Wonderland

Rated PG

“It’s freezing, Tom!”

“We’re going on a sleigh ride, B’Elanna,” Tom informed her as they walked along the snow covered sidewalk leading up to the stable.

“Yes, but this is the holodeck,” she reminded him. “Can’t we have some heat?”

“You can’t have snow without cold. Besides, we’ll have a blanket around us.”

“You mean around me! You know Klingons don’t tolerate the cold, Tom!” She exclaimed as they got onto a sleigh that was ready for them. Then she quickly wrapped the blanket around herself for warmth.

“We’re ready, Sir,” Tom addressed the driver. Then he tried to get B’Elanna to share the blanket. “Why don’t you loosen up a little and stop being such a Scrooge?”

“Me? A Scrooge? Hardly! I’m just freakin’ cold, Tom! Christmas in July would be better or even in a warmer climate.” She tightened the blanket around herself as she refused to let him have any of it.

“Then there’d be no snow to have a sleigh ride in. What fun is that? Now this is perfect weather for a sleigh ride!”

“Maybe for you it is,” B’Elanna retorted, still not sharing any of the blanket with him. “And those bells are starting to get annoying!”

“I think they are wonderful and go well with the falling snow.”

“Ugh! Stop the sleigh, James or whoever you are!”

B’Elanna finally let the blanket go as she unceremoniously got off the sleigh and fell into the snow. “Ah!”

“You alright B’Elanna?” Tom asked as he leaned over the edge of the sleigh to see for himself that she was fine.

“NO! I’m cold and wet!” She growled.

“Here, I’ll join you,” Tom said as he jumped off the sleigh and into the snow.

“You’re crazy, you know that Tom.”

“Yes, but you love it.”

“Not right now I don’t.”

“You can go on back with the horses, Sir,” Tom told the driver. “We’ll be fine.”

“Yeah, after we freeze to death,” B’Elanna stated sarcastically as they watch the sleigh drive down the snow covered road.

“OK you don’t want to go on a sleigh ride, and I’m guessing you don’t want to stay in the snow and make snow angels,” he said. “So how about a nice fire place and chestnuts?”

“Anything that is warm and dry would be better than this.”

“Computer, play Paris Winter Wonderland scene number fifteen.”

The scene switch before them and in its place was a fireplace inside a one room cabin. Christmas music was softly playing in the background in time to the crackle of the fire. Beside the fireplace was a basket of chestnuts and in front of it was a love seat.

Across the room was a well decorated Christmas tree with a white skirt resembling snow. On top of the skirt were a few wrapped presents waiting to be opened Christmas day. Not too far from the tree was a double bed and a few feet away from the foot of the bed was a small table with two chairs.

“Now this I can deal with!” B’Elanna exclaimed as she glanced around the room, she took off her wet snowsuit, and hung it on a hook near the door.

“I’m glad,” Tom smiled as he tried to kiss her.

She pushed him away, “Not so fast, Fly Boy! I’m not warm enough for that!”

“OK, then let’s roast some chestnuts or pop some popcorn. Whatever you want to do,” Tom replied with disappointment. Then he removed his snowsuit and hung it on a hook beside hers.

“I’ve never tried roasted chestnuts before.”

“Then you’re in for a treat!” Tom insisted as he sat in front of the sofa and started to roast the chestnuts.

“Have anything warm to drink?” B’Elanna inquired.

“We have hot cider, hot cocoa, and brandy if you like.”

“Brandy sounds good right about now,” she stated. “But I’ll go with the hot cider, I guess.”

“Bring me one too please.”

She walked over to what she guessed was the kitchen area behind the table, except all it had was a replicator and a sink built into the wall. “Cider, hot,” she ordered. “Some kitchen!”

“Yeah, this place is cosy, isn’t it?”

“That’s one way to describe it,” she said as she brought him his cider and sat on the floor beside him.

“Ready to try some chestnuts?”

“Sure,” she leaned against his chest as she enjoyed the warmth of the fire and tasted the chestnut. “This is good!”

“Want another?”

“Sure!” She accepted the chestnut from him as he fed it to her. When she finished eating it, she said, “I like watching the snow fall from in here. It’s nice.”

“Oh now you like the snow,” he teased as he wrapped his arms around her.

“I’m warm and cosy,” she said with a smile as she twisted around in his arms. “And the company is nice.”

“Glad you like it.”

“You still want that kiss, Fly Boy?” She asked as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

“You offering?”

“I am now, if you still want it.”

“You bet I do!”

They kissed each other passionately as they fell to the floor in front of the fireplace.

*Chakotay to Paris*

“Damn! Just when we were beginning to have a little fun!” Paris exclaimed, releasing B’Elanna so he could tap his com-badge. “Paris here.”

*We need you on the Bridge. We have some serious plasma storms up ahead and need your assistance on the Bridge.*

Tom sighed, “I’m on my way.”

The comm went dead and Paris stood, “I guess we’ll have to finish this another day.”

“Christmas day would be nice.”

“Is that a suggestion?”

“If you want your gift, Fly Boy,” she insisted as she stood and put her arms around his neck, “we’d better come back here on Christmas day.”

“How about Christmas Eve?”

“Humm… That’s two days away! Even better!”

“Computer, save program and exit.”

Both of them smiled as they left the holodeck and were looking forward to their Christmas Eve plans.
